Tranquility.. Doesn't always happen on purpose. Usually it's an accident.. in my life anyways.
But I like tranquil items. For awhile, I've wanted to make an origami crane mobile. When I mentioned this to M on Friday, he thought it'd be a great project for what I'd declared was our 'crafty weekend'. So, we got some new folding paper and I dug out my older paper. He had the great idea to use floral wire instead of wooden dowel rods.
After doing some folding, we both agreed that a butterfly was more serene (and easier to fold). And I'd already folded around 50 or so cranes for a cousin's wedding years ago.. So the Butterfly won.
Which makes me really happy actually. Having these butterflies hovering over my desk in my office makes me feel like spring is really on the way (even as we look down the barrel of another snow storm this week..)
Project:
Origami Paper
Folding instructions
Clear thread (or fishing line, or dental floss)
Gauge 20 or so floral wire
Wire cutter/bender
Needle
Patience (optional, but highly recommended)
We folded different sized of butterflies ( http://www.origami-fun.com/origami-butterfly.html ), then I laid out the butterflies in a pattern I wanted.
I threaded floss through their backs at various places - different spots will give different 'flight paths'. And I measured and cut the floral wire to the length I wanted based on my pattern. M worked on tying the wire to each other. Then it took two of us to really balance and hang the mobile. (Re-assembling after transporting the mobile is really hard and not recommended.)
But look at the lovely outcome!
