Spring Break - CERT Learning..

It's Spring Break here in Illinois. Students have been kicked from the dorms.. most to go home or somewhere warm. Campus (and the hallways) are noticeably quieter.

I have this day here at work, and then 4 days of training in Springfield. I'm excited to go. It's like a little business trip, but not somewhere too dangerous or far away. In fact, plans are that Mom and Dad will come up for supper one night too!

Life is chugging on.. Busy this week, travels the next 3 to 5 weekends in a row.. It was a very rough time of year last year. Lots of time with family, but at a high cost of a very dear and loved one. (Grandpa, we miss you!)

We watched LIFE last night.. most people report being annoyed by Oprah's voice as the narrator. I think M and I were ultimately too distracted by some of these amazing creatures to care who was sharing their stories.

And last night also saw the passing of the new Health Care bill.. I was dreadful last night as I heard the news. Not because I wish to withhold health care or benefits from people. Or because I fought hard to keep the bill from passing.. I felt dread because I've done so little (like most of us, I suspect) to understand the bill, or care about what my representatives say about it, or how they'd vote. I felt dread because I didn't participate in the process. Then to wake this morning and start thinking about how poorly run the Social Security System is, or how we're so behind in fraudulent claims to Medicare, etc.. How can we add this to a government's plate that is already so careless with spending and policies?!

(sigh)

Okay - so the world will keep turning. We'll all find a way to get by, and make choices to be selfish or selfless.. We'll have food, and shelter - usually at greater expense and costs to the planet and to other countries than we'll ever admit. Convenience and choice will be the bonus we see as 'deserved.' And lack of time (and over-entertainment) will still be our leading excuse.

Do something for someone else today.. and tell me about it, please?!
Make a difference somehow..

I haven't found my thing to do just yet.. but will update when I do.
